SDSU AMA FAQ ama bar

Q: How do I become a member?
A: It’s simple! All you have to do is pick up an application, pay a membership fee and submit it to the VP of Membership. Applications are available at our weekly meetings on Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m. at the Backdoor and online at our website www.sdsuama.com.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: For first time members the cost is a total of $75.00. This includes $30.00 for our chapter collegiate fee and $45.00 for AMA’s national fee. This might sound a little pricey, but keep in mind; AMA is one of SDSU’s largest and most cost-friendly organizations on campus. When considering the wide spectrum of benefits and experience AMA has to offer, becoming a member is definitely worth your while.

Q: If I joined AMA last semester, do I still have to pay a fee and fill out an application?
A: Yes. However, there is a plus side to being a returning AMA member. If you’re a second time AMAer, you only have to pay the $30.00 collegiate fee, since the $45.00 national fee is paid only once per year. If you are returning to AMA for a third semester in a row, you are back to paying the combined chapter and national fee of $75.00. So the payments alternate between the $75 and $30, depending on how many semesters you’ve been a member (1st semester: $75, 2nd: $30, 3rd: $75, 4th: $30, and so on). Also, remember that it is always essential to complete and submit a new AMA application every semester.

Q: What kind of payment is accepted?
A: We accept all kinds of payment: cash, check and credit card! You can make checks payable to the American Marketing Association or pay with a credit card through PayPal on our website. By paying online, you can avoid the crowded lines at our meetings and pay anytime before the deadline.

Q: If I pay with a credit card online, can I submit my application online as well?
A: Unfortunately, no. Although you may take care of your membership fee online, a hard copy of your completed application is mandatory. Your signature is required at the bottom page on the back of your application. If you pay online, you must submit your applications at the following AMA meeting, otherwise your information won’t be processed through to the national chapter of AMA.

Q: If I’m interested in AMA but am unavailable during the meeting time, can I still join? How can I become more involved?
A: Absolutely! We encourage everyone interested in the beneficial and fun aspects of AMA to join and get involved in any way possible. If you are unable to make it to our usual meeting time, then there are several alternate ways to get the most out of your AMA membership. First, you can attend our AMAzing social and community service events that are held outside our normal meeting time. Also, if you’re looking to become even more involved and interested in building a closer relationship with the board and other members, you can join one of several AMA committees. Whether you’re interested in helping with the advertising and promotion of AMA or planning the professional mixer at the end of the semester, there are plenty of opportunities to go around.
